Montessori is not for everyone.

What do Taylor Swift, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Google's founders (Larry Page and Sergey Brin), and our own Vikram Sarabhai have in common?

Montessori nurtures curiosity, independence, and creativity. Mahatma Gandhi admired how it made learning joyful through play, while Rabindranath Tagore established Montessori schools to foster children’s creative self-expression.

But here’s the thing—Montessori isn’t for everyone. It thrives in a space where parents trust the process, embrace their child’s individuality, and value growth over perfection. For those who seek rigid structure, instant results, or constant micromanagement, Montessori might feel like a mismatch.

What is the right age to start schooling?
In a Montessori perspective, there’s no rigid timeline for when a child should start schooling. It’s about honoring their individuality and readiness. Here’s a flexible approach to consider:

-
Natural Curiosity: Does your child show interest in exploring their environment and engaging with others?
-
Social Growth: Are they ready to experience interactions beyond family and develop social confidence?
-
Developmental Signals: Can they handle simple routines and express basic needs in their own way?
-
Parental Intuition: Do you feel your child is seeking a space where they can grow and learn at their own pace?

Every child grows uniquely, and Montessori values adapting to their rhythm rather than imposing a set age. Trust their journey—and yours.

Hey,
I am Aashu Manchali

'Why did a 40-year-old seasoned engineer and her product manager son start a Montessori school?

In the late 90s, my mom was at the peak of her career working in a Fortune 100 company at the time. She was super busy but I was the center of her world. She says, she visited every preschool in the neighborhood and spent hundreds of hours researching (this was the pre-internet era).

Her hunt led her to one of the two Montessori schools in the city and she was finally sold and decided that 3-year-old me should go to a Montessori school.
In a year's time, she noticed a level of maturity that had developed in me and my peers which was missing in children who went to traditional preschools. Her curiosity was piqued. I have a vague memory of me getting up in the middle of the night to see my mom with a huge pile of books on Montessori and child psychology.
After a lot of research and thinking she quit her job in 2003 and started 'Sanskrathi Montessori' in JP Nagar. Since then we have schooled over 2000 children. We just had our first second-generation admission. Anubhav and I have joined her crusade in 2019. We started noticing a trend, people came from miles away to seek their 'Manchali Ma'am'.
Hence we have started calling it what it really is - 'Madam Manchali's Montessori'
