Read this before you enter the environment for the first time.
šļø Montessori children understand that visitors are there to observe, so don't be surprised if they come up to you. A simple "hello" and introduction is enough.
šŖ If the teacher isn't free at the moment, no worries - just take a seat and wait for them to initiate introductions.
ā° The teacher may give you a quick tour and explain the materials, but if the class has already started it may have to be scheduled for later.
āļø Jot down any questions or concerns during your observation and follow up with the teacher later, as they may be too busy during class.
ā³ To get the full Montessori experience, aim to stay for at least half an hour.
š Don't be overwhelmed by the variety of activities - try alternating between observing the entire class and focusing on one child.
š£ Listen to the different types of sounds in the classroom - from the normal chatter to excited learning discoveries.
š¾ Observe the different learning styles - some children may work independently, others cooperatively, and some may wander and observe their environment.
š¤Take note of the children's interactions with each other - listen for respect and manners in their speech.
š§āš« Pay attention to the teacher-child interactions - they may be different from what you're used to.
š Take a look at the materials - are they clean and attractive? Do the children handle them with care?
š Remember, it's not possible to take in everything on your first observation, but watching the children in their natural environment can give you a sense of whether it's the right fit for your child.
